PeopleSoft Acquires APS to Improve Data Analysis

FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA. (05/03/2000) - Looking to strengthen its Enterprise Performance Management data analysis software suite, PeopleSoft Inc. has bought Advance Planning Solutions Inc. (APS), which makes software for business modeling, PeopleSoft announced today.

PeopleSoft didn't disclose the terms of the cash transaction, which has been approved by the companies' boards but needs regulatory approval.

The APS software, called Advance, lets users do business planning, financial analysis and econometric modeling and will be "linked" with PeopleSoft applications, according to PeopleSoft.

PeopleSoft hasn't determined how it will integrate Advance with its Enterprise Performance Management (EPM) suite of data analysis software, said Chuck Teller, APS' chief executive officer, in an interview this afternoon.

What's clear is that Advance will complement PeopleSoft's EPM suite as well as other PeopleSoft applications, said Teller, who has been named general manager of PeopleSoft's EPM product group. APS' chief technology officer, Marshall Miller, was appointed PeopleSoft's vice president of development for the Advance product.

Advance is an Internet-based development platform for building data modeling applications, and it will enhance EPM's data modeling capabilities by strengthening in particular the suite's time-based analysis features, such as forecasting and planning, Teller said.

"Time-based analysis is our strength," he said.

The privately-held APS was founded in 1992.
