AT&T sign first Aussie VPN contract

Third-party transaction processor First Data International has signed a three-year networking contract with AT&T for an MPLS-based virtual private network (VPN) for voice and data from Singapore to Sydney.

The VPN will connect First Data offices in Sydney, Hong Kong and the newly opened Singapore office. This is the first local deal for AT&T in the South-East Asian region. First Data and AT&T currently have a US global networking contract.

Brett Morelli, First Data network services vice president, said the MPLS core provides fast triangular routing between Sydney and Singapore offices.

Jeyan Jeevaratnam, AT&T Australia and New Zealand managing director, said this contract is the first collaborative work for AT&T in the region; however, the two companies have a long-term global agreement in the US.
