Sun to buy ERM vendor Vaau

Sun intends to purchase Vaau, an enterprise role management company.

Sun Microsystems said Tuesday it plans to buy Vaau, a Torrance, California-based vendor of ERM (enterprise role management) and identity compliance software.

The terms of the deal were not disclosed. The deal is "immaterial to Sun's earnings per share," Sun said.

Vaau makes a product suite called RBACx. It includes Identity Warehouse, for storing user information; Compliance Manager, which targets identity auditing; and Role Manager, a role and rule engine.

Sun said Vaau's offerings would fit well into its own portfolio of products. The two companies have already partnered on an offering based on RBACx and Sun's user provisioning platform, Java System Identity Manager.

The deal is expected to close during Sun's fiscal 2008 third quarter, which starts on December 31, according to the company.
