Sybase wins exclusive rights to market C&W GRX services

A partnership agreement announced today will see Sybase selling GRX services to C&Ws network of customers.

Sybase has entered into a strategic partnership with Cable and Wireless (C&W) which grants Sybase exclusive rights to market and sell GRX (GPRS Roaming Exchange) services worldwide.

A GRX exchange is a centralised IP routing network which allows mobile users to roam across multiple exchanges while accessing their home network services such as WAP, MMS and SMS.

Sybase will be marketing the services to the network of C&W customers, which includes Australian operators such as Vodafone Australia, Optus and Hutchison 3G.

The company is also acquiring C&W's MMS international operator hubbing service, which will be integrated into Sybase subsidiary, Sybase 365.

Marty Beard, the president of Sybase 365, said the acquisition will enable Sybase to become the largest global provider of multimedia messaging interoperability.

"It's a very strategic opportunity for Sybase. We're very excited about taking a leadership position in this new mobile IP world."
