HP arrests battery issues with its new Mini notebook

HP has announced the next big name in its line of Mini products - the Mini 2140 notebook PC.

Despite weighing in at a pint-sized 1.19kg, the HP Mini 2140 is well endowed with a large, 10.1-inch diagonal, scratch-resistant HP Illumi-Lite LED display and a QWERTY keyboard that is 92 per cent of the standard full-size. It also boasts a touchpad and a range of hard-drive options, including a 160GB 5400rpm hard drive that comes standard and an optional 80GB solid-state drive. Its predecessor, the HP Mini 1001TU, shipped with a 60GB drive that spun at 4800RPM. The case is made from aluminium.

The Mini 2140 includes integrated Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.0, as well as an integrated VGA Web cam.

In the face of criticism levelled at the short battery life of the HP Mini 1001TU, the new notebook model offers the option of a six-cell lithium-ion battery solution to ensure the PC enjoys a longer battery life. The new model has also been fitted with a low-power Intel Atom processor to enable the unit to run cooler, use less power and ensure the battery lasts longer.

According to HP, the new Mini 2140 is “designed for mobile professionals and internet-centric consumers who require a rich computing experience in a small, portable and powerful package”.

The HP Mini Notebook 2140 PC retails from $799 and is available in stores now.
