Quigley appointed NBNCo chief

The former Alcatel COO and president to begin working immediately

The Rudd Government has chosen former Alcatel COO and president Mike Quigley as executive chairman of the NBNCo.

Quigley, at Alcatel for 36 years, led the company’s negotiations of the multi-billion dollar merger with Lucent Technologies, before returning to Australia.

The Government announced in a statement: “Few people in the world have first-hand experience with the deployment of the type of network our National Broadband Network plan involves. Mike is one of those people. He understands the technology, the applications, and all of the considerations that go into making a network viable.”

Quigley will begin working immediately and be actively involved in the NBN Implementation Study.

The government flagged early last week that it was due to shortly appoint a CEO, chairperson and full board.

More appointments to the NBNCo board are expected to be announced throughout the week.
