In brief: St George Bank apologises for Internet banking woes

DDOS attack ruled out

St George has apologised to customers hit by a technical problem affecting its Internet banking system.

The bank’s internal technical team has ruled out a Distributed Denial of Service attack, but has yet to determine the cause for the “slower response” of the online service.

Computerworld reported the Internet banking service appeared to be intermittently inaccessible to desktop and mobile customers this morning.

A St George Bank spokesman apologised to affected customers and said it will continue to work though the issue.

St George Bank is pushing to integrate the Internet banking services with Westpac following their merger in December 2008. The banks are considering cherry-picking platforms including St George’s customer and relationship management system, Firefly, and its teller system, Spider, with Westpac’s finance and treasury systems.
