ThoughtWorks gives agile IT an online forum

The ALM vendor's online venture is geared to decision makers and focuses on agile software development

ThoughtWorks unveiled this week an online community focused on exchange of ideas and best practices related to agile software development.

Called "Agile Transitions," the community is intended for discussion of executive- and business-level issues pertaining to "agile IT," according to ThoughtWorks, which sells products for agile application lifecycle management.

[ Earlier this year, InfoWorld's Paul Krill reported that agile software development is now considered mainstream.]

ThoughtWorks refers to the community as being geared to "agile IT" because it is targeted at IT decision makers. But agile software development is the focus of the effort. Agile software development involves building software in shorter, phased iterations rather than mapping out the entire project in advance.

Agile Transitions is accessible at the ThoughtWorks Website.

"This online community provides an interactive forum for leaders and executives to exchange ideas and experiences," said Adam Monago, vice president of client services for the ThoughtWorks Studios division of ThoughtWorks, in a statement released by the company. "It also allows ThoughtWorks to share its experience addressing the business-related issues that are critical to building a sustainably agile organization at the global, enterprise-wide level."

The Agile Transitions forum enables members to discuss such executive-focused topics as IT governance, organization, budgeting, risk management, and even HR issues, ThoughtWorks said. Executives can converse back and forth.

Also featured on the site are question-and-answer capabilities and a resource library featuring articles, white papers, reference materials, and links to webinars.
