NBN network operations centre up and running

The Tasmanian network operations centre (NOC) for the National Broadband Network (NBN) has been launched by Communications Minister, Stephen Conroy.
The centre will assist the customers who connect to the national infrastructure project, and will help ensure their service is reliable.
It will also take service orders from retail service providers, coordinate provisioning and fault repairs, manage network traffic, and providing data for billing purposes.
The NOC will be operated by Opticomm, who developed and delivered the electronics for the stage one network roll out.
Currently, three providers – Primus, Internode and iiNet – have signed up to deliver services over the NBN in Tasmania.
As reported by Computerworld Australia iiNet released its pricing today and Primus released its pricing in mid-May.
According to Conroy, the NOC had already received its first batch of connection orders ahead of services starting next month.
Conroy also claimed that the NBN had been embraced in Tasmania with the first community briefings on the service, held in Midway Point, Smithton and Scottsdale, being attended by more than 300 people.
