Telstra to launch T-Box

Telstra has announced its plan to release its new digital set top box, T-Box, later this month.
The T-Box is a personal video recorder (PVR) with a 320GB internal hard drive and two high-definition digital television tuners. It will allow users to access free-to-air TV channels, internet TV channels, TV shows and the option of seven BigPond channels, a library of on-demand videos plus video clips on YouTube - when connected to the Internet via Telstra's BigPond service.
T-Box, retailing at $299, will also offer control free-to-air TV, with pause, rewind and fast-forward capabilities and be able to record programs up to seven days in advance.
The launch follows the release of the T-Hub device back in April and marks an increased focus by the telco to address falling fixed line revenues through new IP-based services.
As reported by Computerworld Australia maintaining fixed line revenues have been a major challenge for Telstra. In February the company flagged that revenue from PSTN services had declined $222 million year on year during the last half.
