MySQL training comes to Sydney

As an indication of the growing popularity of MySQL, one of the more popular open source databases, MySQL AB, the company behind the MySQL database server, is holding its first MySQL training session in Sydney this week.

During the week-long course, which runs from November 26 to 30, users will "not only master the fundamental issues of MySQL, but also the optimisation and administration ones" said Bertrand Matthelié, MySQL AB, marketing manager.

Course topics range from an introduction to MySQL, MySQL administration and optimising the database program. "MySQL is fast, but this course will help them make their application even faster," said Matthelié. "They will learn how to write queries that execute fast, how to design databases with response time in mind, and how to use less resources in order to make their application scale better."

In the past few years MySQL has grown in popularity along with fellow open source database server, PostgreSQL, which is a database project (Postgres) that began at the University of California, Berkley.
