Clarity completes install for Western Power

Telecom support software company Clarity, a Powerlan (ASX:PWR) subsidiary, has completed the second stage of a deployment to support Western Power's smart grid ambitions

Powerlan (ASX:PWR) subsidiary, Clarity, has revealed it has completed the second stage of a contract with Western Power.

Clarity, which provides unified telecom solutions, said it had installed a Telecommunications Network Management System for the Western Australian electricity distributor.

Clarity said it had provided functionality including performance management, visualisation and performance data collection and analysis with the deployment.

In the first phase of the project, Clarity deployed an inventory and alarm management solution to aid with telecom network design, planning and construction.

A third stage is planned which will see the implementation of more telecom support software.

Western Power chose to implement the Clarity solutions as it builds out a telecom network to fulfil its smart grid ambitions.

“Without the capabilities of the unified standards-based platform Clarity has delivered, we simply would not have been able to cope with the explosive growth in network elements and complexity we have seen over the last few years,” Western Power manager of secondary systems, Al Edgar, said.

Clarity vice president of global utilities, Bob Darwin, said utility companies are becoming increasingly reliant on telecom as an enabler for smart grid services.

Western Power's OSS implementation project manager, Carlos Carpio, will be delivering one of the keynote speeches at TM Forum's first Sydney Regional Spotlight. Clarity this week revealed it has agreed to be the exclusive sponsor for this event.

PWR shares grew 3.12 per cent on Thursday to $0.033.
