LG's new laptop offers clear screen views from wide angles

The laptop's IPS display will give users a wider viewing angle

LG Electronics has introduced a laptop with a screen that it says allows multiple people to watch from wide angles without any loss in image quality.

The model, the P220, has a 12.5-inch widescreen IPS (In-Plane Switching) display, which allows users to watch from an angle of 178 degrees. A user could almost be looking at the laptop from the side, but still clearly see the screen.

The display also has a slim bezel, which makes it possible for LG to put the 12.5-inch display in a package that previously would have had room for a 11.6-inch display, according to LG. The P220 measures approximately 29.8 x 19.3 x 2.1 centimeters and weighs about 1.3 kilograms.

The resolution is 1366 x 768 pixels, and the screen powered by an Intel HD Graphics 3000 chip. It comes in three colors: white pearl, pink pearl and blue pearl.

Other hardware specifications include second-generation Intel Core i5 or i3 processors; 2GB or 4GB of internal memory and 250GB or 320GB of storage. The standard operating system is the 64-bit version of Windows 7 Home Premium.

The battery capacity makes it possible to view three full-length movies consecutively on one charge, LG said without specifying the length of each movie.

The LG P220 notebook will be available in South Korea this month and in Europe soon after, the company said. Pricing and details on availability in other parts of the world were not revealed.
