Nintendo 3DS and Wii console owners will get a number of updates in late 2011, including Hulu Plus on both devices and 3D video recording on the 3DS, Nintendo announced Friday. Hulu Plus will land on the Wii and 3DS by the end of the year, while Nintendo promises 3DS owners they will be able to record up to ten minutes of 3D video by the end of November.

The addition of Hulu Plus to the Wii puts the subscription-only version of the popular video site on all three major gaming console platforms, including the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Hulu Plus costs $7.99 a month and gives subscribers access to a larger library of Hulu content than non-subscribers can access such as complete current and past seasons of popular TV shows, including Modern Family, Glee, and Castle. Hulu Plus also lets you view Hulu content on gaming consoles, Roku set-top box, Blu-ray players, Internet-connected televisions, the iPhone, iPad, and Android devices.

If you get tired of watching TV shows and movies on your Nintendo 3DS, you will be able to create your own content in 3D after a new system update lands at the end of November. The 3DS can already capture 3D still photos, but the new capability will let you save up to ten minutes of 3D video. Nintendo also says the new 3D video feature will include tools to help you create stop-motion animation.

Nintendo also says it is adding new content to its Nintendo Video service, including an animated short from Dreamworks featuring the Shrek characters doing a rendition of Michael Jackson's Thriller. A 3D video of Foster the People's song Don't Stop (Color on the Walls) will also be added to Nintendo's content offerings.

Finally, four new games and apps are headed to the 3DS. They're Freakyforms, a game that lets you create your own creatures; a 3D puzzle game called Pushmo; a messaging app called Swapnote; and a 3D tower defense game called Dillon's Rolling Western. Freakyforrms lands in November, Pushmo and Swapnote arrive in December, and Dillon's Rolling Western will be available in early 2012.
