Dick Smith site groans under weight of gaming sale traffic

Dicksmith.com.au goes down for some visitors

Dicksmith.com.au was rendered temporarily inaccessibly for some customers for portions of the morning, as the retailer kicked of a massive $7 million games clearance sale. The sale covered both its e-commerce website and its bricks and mortar stores.

Blog Gizmodo Australia reported that huge lines had gathered outside Dick Smith stores this morning.

Last week Kotaku posted leaked Dick Smith pricing lists that revealed massive price cuts, including Xbox 360 250GB games consoles selling for $100 and Nintendo DSi handheld consoles selling for $20. The prices of games for PS3, Nintendo's Wii, the Xbox 360 and Windows PCs were also slashed.

The online sale started at 8am. By 11am the site was accessible to visitors again.
