Telstra customers can hit the slopes without fear of mobile data speeds slipping after Telstra turned on 4G coverage at several popular Australian ski mountains.

Telstra announced today it has added 4G coverage for Perisher, Thredbo, Falls Creek and Mt Hotham. Telstra said coverage will be available specifically in “most of the village areas” and “some of the ski slopes”.

The telco plans to add coverage at Jindabyne and Mt Buller within two weeks, it said.

Telstra networks executive director, Mike Wright, said the telco’s 4G network will cover two-thirds of the Australian population by the month’s end.

“Ski fields are one of those places where a large number of people congregate for specific periods of time each year in a really social atmosphere, so it made sense to deploy our 4G network there,” he said.
