Anchor takes space in Equinix Sydney data centre

Web hosting and infrastructure provider Anchor is deploying equipment at the Equinix SY3 data centre in Mascot, Sydney to offer customers geographic redundancy.

Each cabinet within the building has an average volt-amperes (kVA) of 4. The equipment rollout will be completed by November 2013

Anchor co-founder Andrew Rogers said the Mascot building will offer hosting customers a “premium” level of performance designed to scale as customers grow.

“We have had interest from approximately six customers. We expect this to increase as we have received many requests for geographic redundancy over recent times,” he said.

According to Rogers, the e-commerce industry in Australia is growing rapidly and the second facility will better support the needs of its customers, particularly in retail.

Anchor also has equipment deployed at Global Switch’s data centre in in Ultimo.

The company has more than 3000 customers including Booktopia, Huggies and Specsavers. In 2011, it opened a data centre in Los Angeles to cater for Australian businesses looking to expand into the US market.
