Telstra to host online security services

Telstra has moved into the online security space announcing today it will be offering Gatekeeper accredited digital certificates and hosting services by the end of the year.

Launching iTrust Solutions, the telco's executive director of broadband and online services, Greg Willis, said it is one of the few Australian owned companies in this space.

Willis said services can be bundled to suit different customer requirements but would be particularly relevant to government agencies and departments wanting to secure their online transactions.

"We intend to target government agencies striving to meet their online security requirements and the wider business market looking for solutions that underpin the privacy and security needs of all online business-to-business transactions," he said.

"Government and businesses will be able to approach Telstra for a fully outsourced service where, together with our partners, Telstra can provide a complete solution for even the most complex online security requirements."

Gatekeeper accreditation is based on PKI technology (Public Key Infrastructure) and is aimed at providing the necessary information security and legal framework for electronic communications over the Internet. It is the standard applied to organisations that provide secure online services and Telstra will be competing with established market players such as Baltimore Technologies.
