SubPartners taps TE SubCom for APX-West

Signs system supply contract

SubPartners, the company headed by Bevan Slattery, founder of PIPE Networks and NextDC, has signed a system supply contract with New Jersey-based TE SubCom for the APX-West undersea cable.

APX-West will be a 4.7km cable stretching from Perth to Singapore .

In March, SubPartners and Telstra signed a non-binding MoU for the telco to acquire a fibre pair on the four fibre-pair system.

Each fibre pair will have 48-60 wavelengths, each with 100Gbps capacity.

The cable is intended to have branches to Indonesia and Christmas Island. Completion is due in 2014.

SubPartners is also planning a second four fibre-pair cable, APX-East, stretching from Australia and New Zealand to the west coast of the US, taking in some Pacific locations en route.

Slattery exited NextDC's board earlier this year.
