In brief: NT education department signs with NEC

NEC has won a half-decade ICT contract with the NT government's Department of Education.

The contract, worth $34.6 million, covers the infrastructure and enabling the department's service desk, as well as integration, on-site support, IP telephony and other communications systems.

“A key component of NEC’s contract is the local development and value adding component on the contract,” NT chief minister Adam Giles said.

NEC is launching the 'IT Apprenticeship Hub'. The five-year education project will train young and indigenous Territory students. The program begins next year and run 12-month programs, training at least 50 apprentices over its life.

NEC will continue with its support of the NT's Structured Work Place program, which is co-ordinated by the Department of Education. The company has backed the program since 2007.
