LaCie doubles wireless capacity for iPhones, iPads

The drive maintains the same form factor as the 1TB model

Hard drive maker LaCie today announced it is doubling the capacity of its Fuel wireless drive for iPads, iPhones and Mac systems.

The latest version of the drive, which was first announced in January, now has up to 2TB of storage capacity.

The drive will be available this month and will have a retail price of $249.99.

The LaCie Fuel offers the same features and 2.5-in. drive form factor as the 1TB model. The features include wireless streaming of content to up to five devices without an Internet connection; the ability to create its own Wi-Fi network and act as a hotspot when connected to the Internet via Wi-Fi; Airplay compatibility for mirroring content on a larger screen; and up to 10-hours of battery life.

LaCie uses the Seagate Media application to connect with Apple mobile devices. The Seagate Media app is compatible with iOS and enables the wireless hard drive features. LaCie is a subsidiary of Seagate, and is especially well known in the Mac user community.

"With the 2TB LaCie Fuel, users can go from 20 movies on a 32GB iPad to over 1,000 movies on the Fuel. This allows users to store entire movie collections without sacrificing any of the content they need," LaCie stated in its news announcement.
