UPDATED: CBA says it is restoring NetBank services

Bank says the technical issue with mobile banking has been resolved

The Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA) says it has resolved a technical issue with NetBank online banking and that full services are "progressively being restored."

"We sincerely apologise to any customer who has been inconvenienced with this disruption to services," a CBA spokesperson said in a statement.

"Given the high volume of calls into our call centres, customers may experience longer than usual waiting times. Thank you for your patience."

The bank tweeted earlier today that it is “currently experiencing system problems”.

“We have identified the issue and [we] are working to restore services as high priority. We will update with more information soon and apologise for any inconvenience caused,” read the tweet.

A CBA spokesperson told Computerworld Australia that the outage is not related to the 'Heartbleed' bug as NetBank does not use OpenSSL, a cryptographic library that enables secure sockets layer (SSL) or transport security layer (TLS) encryption.

Heartbleed is contained in several versions of OpenSSL which is used by millions of websites around the world to encrypt sensitive communications.
