UK tech firm WM360 sets up shop in Melbourne

Up to 20 new jobs will be created over three years, says Group CTO Stephen Monk

United Kingdom based IT services firm WM360 has chosen Melbourne as the location for its Australian headquarters and plans to create up to 20 new jobs over the next three years.

The firm has offices in London, Chester (UK), New York, Minsk in Belarus, Melbourne and Auckland, New Zealand. WM360 provides SharePoint powered intranet and business systems to customers around the world including Vodafone.

It currently has three staff in Australia: Group CTO Stephen Monk, managing director Tom Hiscutt and SharePoint consultant Justin McPhee.

Monk told Computerworld Australia that it will mainly be recruiting for consultant roles. It expects to recruit up to seven people over the next 12 months.

“We are going to need people who are on the ground, talk face to face with customers and provide that human side of the business. We know that the recruitment is going to be a bit of a challenge. We’ve worked in the tech industry in Australia before and know that it’s a job seeker market,” he said.

“I’ve found that the way business is done in Melbourne is a lot more personal and relaxed. Sydney has the perception of being a bit of a corporate jungle,” Monk said.

Other Melbourne-based IT companies are also expanding their local headcount.

In September 2014, SEO company Web Marketing Experts (WME) expanded its Melbourne office as it looked to recruit 115 new staff by December 2014.

In August, Bangalore, India-based Dexler Information Solutions opened an office in Melbourne and expected to create 25 new jobs, according to Victorian Minister for Technology Gordon Rich-Phillips.
