Uber calls for ridesharing reform in NSW

Uber is encouraging customers of its ridesharing service to contact candidates ahead of the 28 March New South Wales election to push for regulatory reform.

"The taxi industry has been pressuring politicians and candidates to shut down Uber," states an email sent to NSW Uber users by the company.

"They want to stop you from having a choice about how you get around your city. "

"More than 2000 uberX partners now provide rides on the Uber platform to hundreds of thousands of Sydneysiders every week," an Uber block entry states.

"It’s important that you make your voice heard to protect the transport option that Sydney loves, and that driver partners and their families depend upon.

"Riders have come to rely on the affordability and convenience of Uber, as well as some of our class-leading safety features."

The ridesharing service has faced an uphill regulatory battle in NSW, including last year a police raid on its office.

UberX drivers have faced thousands of dollars of fines.

"Whoever is elected on 28th March will get to decide the future of ridesharing in Sydney. It is important that they hear from you, and they are put on notice that you want their support," the Uber blog entry states.
