ACT plans whole-of-government Windows upgrade

The Australian Capital Territory's 2015-16 budget includes funding for upgrades to Windows and Microsoft Office across the government

The ACT government's 2015-16 budget sets aside $8.46 million over four years to carry out a whole-of-government software upgrade program.

The funds will be used to upgrade Microsoft Windows and Office.

"The new operating environment will provide support for a range of hardware, such as tablets, easier access for teleworkers and support for cloud based services," budget documents state.

The budget, which was handed down today, also includes $413,000 for a feasibility study on an upgrade of the government's IT network

Also earmarked was $5.3 million in 2015-16 (and $1.78 million in associated expenses over four years) for a new budget management system.

"This includes initial licence purchase costs, vendor project implementation costs, Shared Services ICT infrastructure and project management costs, and other internal technical project management costs," budget documents state.

The budget also funds the replacement of the Land Titles business system (TARQUIN) with a system that supports web-based access, a feasibility study for replacing the ACT's business licensing system with a new system that will include additional online services, and an upgrade to the HASTUS application used for scheduling and rostering by bus operator ACTION.
