Big data under the spotlight at Curtin Institute for Computation

Curtin University has opened the Curtin Institute for Computation (CIC) in Western Australia to focus on computation and data analytics research.

Acting deputy vice-chancellor of research and development, Professor Brett Kirk said the CIC would focus on big data analytics, modelling, optimisation, simulation, visualisation and education.

With all four faculties of the university contributing to the CIC, this will ensure translation of knowledge across multiple research domains and stronger industry engagement, he added.

Professor Andrew Rohl said he was excited about the opportunity that the CIC would provide to better harness computational resources both in WA and internationally.

“We are entering a new horizon where large and complex data sets are providing new challenges and exciting opportunities for those who can harness the analytical and computational resources available.”
