Court allows release of key Dallas Buyers Club documents

The Federal Court judge presiding over the attempt by Dallas Buyers Club LLC to obtain the personal details of alleged pirates has allowed the release of key documents, including the letter the movie studio wants to send to ISP customers who allegedly downloaded the film.
Justice Perram today granted applications filed by a number of journalists to access two of the key pieces of evidence tendered in court.
The first is a draft letter to be sent to ISP account holders linked to IP addresses used in unauthorised downloads of the movie via BitTorrent.
The second piece of evidence is a telephone script for recipients of the letter who contact DBC LLC and attempt to settle.
The court also released an affidavit by Michael Wickstrom, the vice president of royalties and music administration at Voltage Pictures LLC, which is the licensee and sales agent of the movie Dallas Buyers Club.
Lawyers representing DBC LLC had attempted to supress the two drafts, although they were later leaked and published online.
The content of the script and draft will be the subject of a ruling by Justice Perram that is expected in mid-July, bringing to an end a court conflict that has involved iiNet and a number of other ISPs.
Computerworld Australia has published below the three documents released by the court.
