Turnbull lauds NBN Co for latest rollout figures

NBN (the government-owned company formerly known as NBN Co) has hit its target for the number of premises able to order services on the NBN (the National Broadband Network, not the company).

Communications minister Malcolm Turnbull today posted a blog entry on his website revealing the latest figures for premises serviceable on the network.

As of 30 June this year, premises serviceable stood at 1,143,000 (648,000 brownfields and 188,000 greenfields on the fixed-line network and 268,000 on fixed wireless), according to Turnbull.

NBN's 2014-2017 corporate plan estimated that that figure would be 1,033,000.

Some 485,000 premises have active NBN services, according to Turnbull; just over the 481,000 estimated in the corporate plan.

"The nbn™ has met its financial year rollout targets for only the second time since the company was established," Turnbull wrote.

"The targets are a great credit to the professionalism and dedication of CEO Bill Morrow and the whole nbn team."

NBN revealed at the start of June that it had surpassed a million premises serviceable for the network.

Last month the company signed a new round of network construction contracts.

Telstra's revised NBN migration plan also received the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission's blessing.
