Metronode to expand Perth 2 data centre

Metronode has announced plans to expand its Perth 2 data centre to cope with demand from the WA government, enterprise customers, system integrators and service providers.

Metronode CEO David Yuile said the expansion, which will triple the current size, will be complete in early 2016. The vendor is spending $20 million on the expansion.

“The location and unique, future-proof design of Shenton Park is obviously meeting the stringent needs of our customers in WA and this has meant we needed to bring forward our expansion plans by about 12 months,” he said.

The Perth 2 facility opened in December 2013 at a cost of $30 million. It has a 2.8 megawatt capacity and power utilisation efficiency (PUE) of 1.17.

The company’s client list includes multi-national services provider, Empired, which is in Perth 2.

“Our goal was to partner with an organisation that could provide a well-defined, standardised and internationally-accredited data centre capability, enabling us to facilitate ours and our clients’ business outcomes nationally,” said Empired infrastructure services general manager Brett Gresele.
