AGL nabs CBA exec for CIO role

AGL has recruited the acting chief information officer for the Commonwealth Bank's retail division, Simon Moorfield, to be the energy company's new CIO.

Moorfield, who is also CBA's general manager products and process, will take up his new role at AGL in January 2016.

Moorfield's appointment follows a significant restructure that AGL begun implementing earlier this year which included the departure of CIO Owen Coppage. Coppage became AGL's CIO in 2007.

Under the old structure, AGL business units comprised the information systems group led by Coppage, corporate affairs, corporate support services, group finance, group strategy, merchant energy, people and culture, retail energy, upstream gas.

Under the new structure, IT business partnering, technology services, business analytics, and IT strategy and architecture sit in an information technology function reporting to the executive general manager, finance and technology.

As a result of the restructure Moorfield will report to AGL's CFO, Brett Redman.

Digital and customer experience report to executive general manager, energy market operations.

That role has been taken by Stephen Mikkelsen, who prior to the restructure held the same title at AGL.

"AGL's world-class customer and technology platforms will be in very experienced hands and I am confident that Mr Moorfield has the expertise to position AGL successfully in the rapidly changing digital environment," Redman said in a statement issued by the energy company.
