NSW govt signs up to Microsoft cloud services

NSW government agencies will be able to access a range of Microsoft cloud and mobility services including Office 365. The state government and software vendor today revealed details of the agreement, which will involve the delivery of cloud services from data centres in NSW and Victoria.
Health, finance and services, justice, FACS, and planning and environment will be the first five departments to integrate the services with their existing Microsoft platforms. The five departments employ a total of 130,000 staff.
According to NSW finance minister, Dominic Perrottet, the agreement will help break down departmental ‘silos’ and provide opportunities for more collaboration and information sharing between departments.
“Working with leading edge suppliers to implement cloud-based technology means our agencies can be more responsive, agile and innovative, delivering citizen focused services anywhere, any time while benefiting from increased scalability and flexibility,” he said.
Perrottet said that the government will continue to monitor the roll out of cloud-based services, with a view to considering additional applications for similar technology.
NSW agencies can also source cloud services from the GovDC data centres in Silverwater and Unanderra.
In February this year, Perrottet announced the launch of more GovDC-hosted cloud applications for agencies, including an application to help government agencies manage contractors, a SaaS enterprise resource planning (ERP) platform, and an expense management system.
