Optus signs 10-year agreement with Australian Olympic Committee

AOC had been working with Telstra since 1992

Optus is now the official telecommunications partner for the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) until 2026.

An AOC spokesperson said that it has worked with Telstra since 1992 so the deal with Optus was "a big change."

The sponsorship deal includes the Rio summer games next year, PyeongChang winter games in 2018, the Tokyo summer games in 2020 and Beijing winter games in 2022.

The multi-year agreement gives Optus access to a sponsorship program which includes a partner recognition program, Olympic themed promotions, branded merchandise, VIP events, Olympic Games tickets/hospitality and licensed product opportunities.

According to the AOC, the Australian team will be one of the biggest at Rio 2016 with an expected 450 athletes.

AOC president John Coates said it will cost $23 million to send the team to Rio .

“This would not be possible without the generosity of sponsors. The AOC does not seek or receive any federal government funding,” he said.
