NextDC selects site for B2 data centre

NextDC has selected a site for its second Brisbane data centre, B2, the company announced today.

Late last year the ‘data centre as a service’ provider announced it would seek to raise up to $75 million to fund B2, with the company’s B1 data centre having reached 90 per cent contracted utilisation.

NextDC today said that it had executed an agreement to acquire a site in Fortitude Valley on the fringe of Brisbane’s CBD.

The company expects to spend some $75 million getting the data centre built and running, with a target power capacity of around 6 megawatts at full fit-out and an initial 1.5MW load at launch.

“As we mentioned in February in conjunction with our half-year results, market support for NEXTDC has allowed us to pursue the development of additional facilities for our nationwide network of world-class data centres,” NextDC CEO Craig Scroggie said.

“Our new Fortitude Valley location is within close proximity to Brisbane’s commercial centres, and will allow us to address robust demand for a secure, powerful facility to host critical IT infrastructure and support a diverse ecosystem of carriers and cloud service providers.”

The data centre is due to be completed towards the end of FY17, the company said.
