AMD launches 1.3GHz Duron

Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) on Monday started shipping a 1.3GHz version of its budget Duron processor, which is aimed at mainstream business and home PC users.

The latest addition to AMD's Duron family offers a small speed increase over AMD's previously fastest Duron chip, which runs at 1.2GHz. However, the product matches the clock speed of rival Intel Corp.'s fastest Celeron processor.

The 1.3GHz Duron processor is priced at US$118 in quantities of 1,000 units, a statement from AMD said.
