Qantas seeks CISO to lead updated cyber security function

Qantas is seeking to recruit a group chief information security officer and a number of other senior staff to drive an updated cyber security function at the airline.

The airline is seeking a CISO to oversee four Sydney-based reporting teams with a total headcount of 13, leading security strategy across cyber strategy, cyber risk and resilience, security architecture and security operations.

In addition, the airline has begun the process of recruiting a manager for cyber strategy and engagement to oversee what it describes as “a major business and risk enabling transformation.”

The senior role will be focussed on developing and promoting a business-aligned and risk-focused cyber strategy, including enhancing the airline’s ‘human firewall’ by promoting cyber security across the airline.

Qantas is also recruiting a support role for the position in the form of a business engagement and awareness specialist, whose role will focus on engaging business units to ensure they understand cyber risks and where, when and how to engage the airline’s cyber security team.

For the CISO role, Qantas said its new cyber security chief would be tasked with identifying and leading programs to monitor the emergence of new threats and vulnerabilities, assess business impacts, and drive rapid responses to cyber security events.

The CISO will have to uplift “the cyber security functional capability across Qantas Airlines,” and “Establish, communicate and continuously reprioritise the cyber strategy based on changing strategy risk, and gain stakeholder buy in.”
