NBN signs new greenfield deals

NBN has signed deals with Fulton Hogan and Visionstream to hook up greenfields areas to the National Broadband Network as well as build out the fibre links for its transit network.

The four-year Design and Construction Master Agreements (DCMA) are the final construction agreements for rollout of the multi-technology mix network, which is due for completion in 2020.

Both Fulton Hogan and Visionstream are among the companies signed up to NBN’s Multi-technology Integrated Master Agreement (MIMA).

“These new DCMA agreements provide us with the agility to deploy the NBN network to new homes in greenfield developments and in-fill brownfield areas,” NBN’s chief network engineering officer, Peter Ryan, said in a statement.

Last month network services company Service Stream said it would not seek further greenfields NBN work after its existing contract expires at the end of November.

NBN in June began signing up construction partners to MIMA, which replaced the Network Services Master Agreement (NSMA).

According to NBN, the MIMA contracting model offers “flexible volume commitments, competition between delivery partners, and pricing based on outcomes rather than inputs”.

“What this means is that the performance of our construction partners, the quality of their work and their adherence to safe work practices will determine how much additional work they will receive,” NBN CEO Bill Morrow said in June.

“We have worked closely with the industry to reduce the complexity of our contracts to make them easier to administer and to reward good work as we gear up to accelerate the rollout.”
