Intel will invest over US$1 billion in India

Intel announced Monday that it will invest over US$1 billion in India. The money includes US$250 million it will invest in a venture capital fund, to help stimulate technological innovation in the country and drive the growth of the country's IT industry. The company is also investing US$800 million over the next five years to expand its business in India, including its research and development center in Bangalore, marketing, education and community programs.

Vodafone to boost stake in India's Bharti

British mobile network operator Vodafone Group has received approval from India's Finance Minister, P. Chidambaram, to buy up to 49 percent of the equity of Bharti Enterprises in Delhi, the holding company for Bharti Tele-Ventures, a large mobile and fixed line telephone operator. The Indian government has to approve foreign investment in telecommunications companies.

Palmisano visit underscores India's importance for IBM

The visit to India this week by Samuel Palmisano, IBM's chief executive officer and chairman of the board, underscores the importance of the country both as a market and as a base for delivering outsourced services, an IBM India spokeswoman said Friday.
