Brief: Aviall Selects NEON to Combine Apps

SAN MATEO (08/11/2000) - E-business platform provider New Era of Networks Inc.
(NEON) announced that Aviall Inc. has selected NEON technology to integrate its
automated sales force systems and online supplies Web site. Aviall will use
NEON e-Biz Integrator software, NEONadapter for BroadVision, and NEONadapter
for Siebel to integrate BroadVision's Web-based One-to-One Commerce solutions
with Siebel CRM (customer relationship management) and Lawson ERP (enterprise
resource planning) products, NEON said.

Brief: Motive and Vignette Integrate Software

SAN MATEO (08/11/2000) - A new alliance will integrate Motive Communications
Inc.'s AnswerWeb solution with the Vignette Corp. V/Series eBusiness
Application Platform to bolster e-business customer service. The integration
augments customer service with relationship management, content syndication,
and multiple communications delivery channels provided by the Vignette V/5
product family, Motive Communications said. Specifically, Motive's online
customer care solutions funnel targeted answers to users with questions. In
addition to cooperative product development, the agreement will also involve
joint sales and marketing campaigns.

Brief: DigitalSquare to Use BackWeb for Content

SAN MATEO (08/11/2000) - DigitalSquare, a provider of information for software
shoppers, announced that it plans to use BackWeb Technologies Corp.'s Polite
push technology to deliver content. BackWeb's Polite Agent uses available
bandwidth to deliver information in the background of a PC desktop, officials
said. DigitalSquare provides pricing and product information on PC tools,
games, education, and business. Using BackWeb's push technology, DigitalSquare
plans to deliver product collateral, promotional campaigns, and new product
announcements.

Brief: E-MedSoft.com Acquires Resource Healthcare

SAN MATEO (08/11/2000) - Health care portal solutions ASP (application service
provider) e-MedSoft.com has announced the acquisition of Resource Healthcare, a
privately held company that specializes in pharmacy services for long-term care
and assisted living facilities. The acquisition will add to e-MedSoft.com's
Pharmacy Services Division with the integration of Resource Healthcare's
experience in pharmaceuticals and its 3,500-bed customer base, e-MedSoft
officials said. The e-MedSoft software links doctors, hospitals, clinics, HMOs,
insurance companies, financiers, and government agencies via Java-based
integration technology. The value of the acquisition was not released.

Brief: Tibco to Acquire XML Vendor Extensibility

E-business infrastructure provider Tibco Software
this week agreed to buy Extensibility, an XML software company. Tibco will
incorporate Extensibility's technology, which is used to design XML schemas for
creating and exchanging digital documents and validating e-commerce
transactions, into its products. Tibco also will market and enhance stand-alone
versions of Extensibility's products.

Brief: U.S. Relaxes Computer Export Restrictions

The U.S. government this week announced it was further
relaxing restrictions on exports of high-performance computers. The easing of
the restrictions paves the way for the sale of significantly more powerful
computers to customers in about 50 countries, including China and Russia,
without prior government approval. Under the new regulations, U.S. vendors will
be able to export computers that are twice as powerful as those they are
currently allowed to sell to about 50 so-called Tier-3 countries, a category
which includes India, Pakistan, and Vietnam. Computer export restrictions to
Tier-2 countries, including nations in Central and South America, that have
closer relations with the United States, were also eased.

Brief: Microsoft Faces New Legal Challenges

The European Commission this week opened proceedings
against Microsoft for alleged discriminatory licensing and refusal to
supply information on the APIs for its Windows operating system. According to
an EC representative, the investigation follows a complaint by Sun
Microsystems, alleging that Microsoft had abused its dominant market share in
operating systems to leverage its position in server software.

IBM, Vignette Form Business Alliance

IBM Corp. announced an alliance this week with
e-business applications provider Vignette Corp., directing the partnership
toward the retail and financial sectors. In the deal, Vignette will offer the
V/5 E-business suite of applications for integration with IBM's WebSphere
platform. The complete integration of products should occur by the first
quarter of next year, said a spokesman.

Microsoft: It's not a bug, because Microsoft says it's deliberate, but it is something to know. When you install Windows 2000 SP 1, it does not update Recovery Console files. Brief: Rambus DRAM Breaks 1GHz Barrier

Rambus has announced a design breakthrough
that allows DRAM chips to transfer data at speeds higher than 1GHz. Rambus said
the chip will be marketed for "leading-edge applications," such as
communications and graphics systems, along with consumer products such as video
game consoles.

Brief: Toy Sites in Court Privacy Battles

SAN MATEO (08/04/2000) - The attorneys general from 44 states asked a federal
bankruptcy court in Boston this week to stop the now-defunct Toysmart.com Inc.
from selling customer data to another company. The states argued that the
company's plan to sell customer information as part of a bankruptcy settlement
with the U.S. Federal Trade Commission would violate customers' privacy.
Separately, a California resident's lawsuit has accused Toys R Us Inc. and
Toysrus.com of disclosing the personal data of customers who made purchases on
the Web site from August 1998 to the present. The suit charges that Toysrus.com
violated its privacy policy by giving the information to CoreMetrics Inc., a
third-party marketing company. Toys "R" Us said it did not break any rules
because CoreMetrics is prohibited from using or disclosing the data.

Brief: Dupont Photomasks Picks Bluestone

SAN MATEO (08/04/2000) - Dupont Photomasks has selected Bluestone Software
Inc.'s Java 2, Enterprise Edition (J2EE)-and XML-based Total-e-Business
platform for its infrastructure and communication services. A key reason for
Dupont's selection of Total-e-Business is that it allows real-time
communication and is based on Java, Bluestone officials said. Dupont Photomasks
makes photomasks for the global semiconductor industry.

Brief: Osage Services Selected by Diamond

SAN MATEO (08/04/2000) - Diamond MarketSpace Solutions has announced an
agreement with Osage Systems Group whereby Diamond's consultants and customers
will be able to access Osage's computing, networking, data storage, hardware,
and operating system services, Diamond officials said. Osage is the latest
company to join Diamond's alliance program that provides Diamond's customers
with access to e-commerce solutions. Diamond MarketSpace Solutions provides
Diamond customers with content management, application servers, database
management, Web hosting, systems platforms, data storage customer service, and
e-commerce merchandising, hosting, and portals. Osage Systems Group designs,
implements, and supports e-business solutions.

Brief: Novell Instantme, Net Publisher Update

SAN MATEO (08/04/2000) - Novell Inc. this week added secure messaging and
audio/video instant message features to Version 2.0 of its instantme IM client,
hoping to attract more e-business users. The program uses digital certificates
and supports 128-bit encryption for both the IM data and user authentication.
As of Aug. 4, instantme 2.0 is available as a free download and will run over
the America Online backbone, requiring registration of an AOL screen name
before use. Novell also updated its Net Publisher Web publishing software,
adding more APIs to integrate the product into more business processes and
support for Windows 2000. Net Publisher 2.0, also made available Aug. 4,
automatically converts documents into HTML.

Brief: Sybase Allies with Actuate, WebTrends

SAN MATEO (08/04/2000) - Sybase Inc. has announced partnerships with
information delivery solutions provider Actuate Corp. and visitor relationship
management provider WebTrends Corp. to offer its customers access to the two
companies' applications. Sybase's Adaptive Server IQ Multiplex will also be
certified to work with Actuate's information delivery solution and WebTrends'
CommerceTrends and Enterprise Reporting Server.
