  • Rise of ISVs presents opportunities for businesses

    The number of independent software vendors (ISVs) is exploding and is expected reach 1 million by 2025, according to Forrester. This trend is fuelled by cloud including software-as-a-service (SaaS), which is lowering barriers to selling software. For example, ISVs can rapidly develop software and market it via a cloud marketplace instead of cumbersome on premise delivery models.

    Cloud file storage and collaboration company, Dropbox, has appointed Ingram Micro as its distribution partner for Australia and New Zealand, and says it plans to extend the agreement to a number of Asian countries.

    <a href="http://www.networkworld.com/news/2010/010810-heartland-to-pay-up-to.html">Heartland Payment Systems</a> figured it was in pretty good shape when it took out a $30 million cyber insurance policy. Unfortunately, the credit card transaction processor was the victim of a massive data breach in early 2009 that resulted in losses estimated at $145 million. The insurance company did pay Heartland the $30 million, but the company was on the hook for the remaining $115 million.
