A project to enhance the accuracy of positioning services that use global navigation satellite systems (GNSS), such as GPS, could deliver $6.2 billion in economic benefits to Australia over the course of three decades.
Businesses in sectors ranging from agriculture to aviation, construction, mining, shipping and road transport are expected to benefit from a major project that will deliver highly accurate positioning capabilities across the Australian continent and surrounding maritime zones.
The 2018-19 budget reveals details of the government’s funding for its efforts to promote a domestic space industry as well as new initiatives intended to boost Australian businesses access to location technology, including better GPS performance.
The government has announced it will spend $12 million on a program intended to deliver positioning technology that offers better accuracy than standard GPS.
