• Western Digital pays US$65M for solid state drive maker

  Western Digital Corp. Monday announced that it has completed a $65 million cash acquisition of SiliconSystems, Inc., a small, Aliso Viejo, Calif.-based maker of solid-state drives.

• Western Digital launches 2TB hard disk drive

  Interesting times among hard disk manufacturers. Western Digital continues to solidify its role as a leader in the drive industry. Though the company is not normally known for being at the forefront of capacity jumps, today it became the first manufacturer to announce the jump to 2TB in a single drive. The previous capacity high-point was Seagate's Barracuda 7200.11 1.5TB drive.

• Report: Fujitsu to sell HDD business to Western Digital

  Fujitsu is in talks to sell its hard-disk drive business to Western Digital, according to a report in the Thursday morning edition of the Nikkei business daily.
