Microsoft has flopped on smartphones and tablets. At the same time, its Windows 8.x has continued to be such an abject failure, with a mere <a href="http://www.computerworld.com/article/2600775/windows-pcs-windows-8s-uptake-climbs-but-still-trails-vistas.html">13.4% share of the PC market</a>, that it's trailing even legendary fiasco Vista in market acceptance.
Microsoft's China division today briefly touted "Windows 9" in a post to the Weibo micro-blogging service, bolstering the speculation that the company will stick to a numerical name for its next OS.
Microsoft will unveil the next edition of Windows in just over five weeks, according to a widely-cited report last week.
Microsoft is holding a press briefing Tuesday to broadly discuss the future of Windows, but the expectation is that the company will also introduce specifics of Windows 9, including features such as Cortana and virtual desktops.
