  • Will Kinect support sign language? No. But maybe.

The gossip blogs had a field day a few weeks ago, homing in on a patent filing unearthed by GoRumors that implied Microsoft's Kinect motion-control camera for the Xbox 360 might recognize sign language.

  • Is Microsoft's Xbox 360 slim press giveaway a bribe?

Giving away video game systems...it's part and parcel of the games industry. Companies dispatch review units perennially and often expect them to remain where sent. But giving them away as "gifts" to thousands of people during a live round-the-world broadcast, including the ginormous iconic screens in Times Square? I'd call that pretty much unprecedented.

  • Microsoft 'Xbox TV' channel in the offing?

The PlayStation may have Major League Baseball, but the Xbox 360 could soon land its very own television channel, reports Bloomberg. No, not something agnostic like G4TV or another option in local cable packages, but something exclusive to the Xbox 360 itself.

  • In Xbox case, Microsoft cites Apple's win over Psystar

Microsoft last week cited a 2008 legal victory by operating system rival Apple as it asked a federal court to toss out antitrust claims brought by a company that sells Xbox 360 accessories armed with video game cheats.

  • Nielsen: Xbox 360 used most in US, PS2 edges Wii

The Xbox 360 topped Nielsen's top US game consoles ranked by usage minutes (23.1%), polling slightly ahead of Sony's PS2 (20.4%) and the Nintendo Wii (19.0%). No, that's not a typo. I meant to write PlayStation 2. Sony's PS3? Not on the fact sheet, which either means Nielsen didn't want to embarrass Sony, or they've done the rest of us a disservice by failing to include Sony's flagship game and Blu-ray box in their breakout.

  • Madden 09 & more EA Sports games going offline next month

Earlier today, Destructoid discovered a list of games on EA's website that will lose online multiplayer support starting February 2. We've included the entire list below, but some of more notable games worth highlighting include last year's Madden game (Madden NFL 09), a few failed arcade sports games (Facebreaker and NFL Tour), and Tiger Woods 2007 on the PC, though I'm sure Tiger has bigger problems on his plate right now.

  • Xbox LIVE iPhone app lets you message on the go

Can't get enough Xbox LIVE out of your Xbox 360? Apple iPhone owner? Two bucks to spare? You might care to give 360 Live a look. It's a smallish 1.6MB app available through Apple's iPhone store designed to let you reach out and touch your Xbox LIVE account from just about anywhere, as well as several of the service's tracking and messaging features.
