Dingo Blue barks its way to success

The Internet and phone company newcomer, Dingo Blue, is confident it has the right ingredients to become a successful player in the already crowded telecommunications industry.

The company is fully backed by Cable & Wireless Optus, Australia's second largest telecommunications company, and was launched last week as an independent, wholly-owned subsidiary.

Setting itself aside from the other 32 telco companies and 400 Internet service providers (ISPs) with its "rock bottom" prices and cyber-service, Dingo Blue is expecting to attract 50,000 customers by the end of the year, managing director Martin Paech said.

Business with the company will largely be focused around the Internet, he said, with billing and service delivery available online.

According to Paech, this will allow the company to actively compete with the larger telco companies by providing a "level playing field" for business.

The company is targeting the residential and SOHO market with local, long-distance and international calls, Internet access, Web hosting and e-mail services, Paech said. C&W Optus provides all of these, except for local calls, which Telstra provides.

Paech said Dingo Blue is under no obligation to purchase services from C&W Optus, but will "go to any carrier who can provide the best deal".

"Everybody in the market is a competitor," he said.

According to Paech, the company is looking to launch a mobile product later this year.
