Revera moves to hybrid Cloud

New Zealand-based data centre provider set to replicate with true disaster recovery

New Zealand-based data centre company, Revera, has partnered with VMware to move its data centres to an enterprise hybrid Cloud.

In-depth: Cloud computing strategy guide.

Speaking at a media lunch in Sydney, Revera chief executive, Gael Hargreaves, said the partnership is part of a shift toward more effective disaster recovery replication and will help the company cope with its rapid growth rate.

“We had two virtualized customers in 2007 and now we have hundreds – that’s the rate of growth,” she said.

“Our view is that we’ve got four data centres and we would love to replicate with true disaster recovery… that’s our vision and that’s the kind of infrastructure we’re building.”

The company, which Hargreaves said stemmed from Hitachi Data Systems, has one of its data centres housed in Christchurch, but was not affected by the recent earthquake.

“We weren’t too affected fortunately… the data centre is outside of the city [of Christchurch],” she said. “… But since then, we’re in a fully virtualized environment that backs up to Wellington every night.”

Revera is one of the largest companies to partner with VMware, with channel director, John Donovan, saying that it was a significant win for the vendor.

“Optus, Telstra, Macquarie Telecom and others are some of our customers in the Australian marketplace, but now we have Revera in New Zealand,” he said.

“Revera is one of the largest partners we have, not just in Australia or New Zealand, but in the entire world.”
