Ticked by audits, IT managers rely on software to comply

Tracking software across multiple sites a challenge

Audits of Hervey Bay City Council's software inventory were originally done manually every six months, taking two to three weeks to complete.

"All license audits are now done automatically, where every machine in the fleet is cross-checked against an IT asset database, saving valuable time and money that would otherwise be spent on manually checking every single PC," he said.

"Now at the click of a button, all relevant information can be accessed through a simple dashboard on the desktop, while the addition of user-friendly graphical interfaces means we can more readily identify areas where we are over-licensed."

Centennial Software Asia Pacific regional manager, Howard Waterson, said organizations should be able to comply without it costing an arm and a leg.

The company operates in the US, UK, Germany and Australia.
