Parallels speeds up Windows on Macs with latest upgrade

Claims Windows runs 50 percent faster in Parallels Desktop for Mac 4.0, adds super 'porn mode'

Bundled with Desktop for Mac 4.0 are a Parallels-branded edition of Kaspersky Lab's Internet Security and a Windows-based backup and restore application, Acronis True Image, for backing up virtual machines to local or networked drives.

Parallels Desktop for Mac 4.0 is available immediately via download and at retail for US$79.99; an upgrade for current users is priced at US$39.99. Customers who purchased version 3.0 on or after Sept. 1 are eligible for a free upgrade.

Parallels' biggest competitor in the Mac virtualization market, VMware, launched version 2.0 of its Fusion software in mid-September. It also competes with Sun Microsystems' open-source VirtualBox 2.0.4 , which can be downloaded at no charge.
