The iPhone has continued its run of successes adding the Computerworld Top 10 Most Influential 2009 Readers' Choice Award to its trophy cabinet.

With 7.2 per cent of votes, the iPhone just beat the National Broadband Network (NBN), which received 7.0 per cent of votes, into first place.

The result mirrors that of the Computerworld Top 10 Most Influential 2009 panel voting, announced last year.

The Australian Federation Against Copyright Theft (AFACT) versus iiNet civil case heard in the Federal Court of Australia and the global financial crisis tied for third place with 5.8 per cent of votes respectively.

Fifth place went to the man people love to hate — Senator Stephen Conroy with 5.6 per cent. Following the Communications Minister in sixth was the CSIRO's WLAN Project Team which scored a major patent win and payout in 2009; they received 5.3 per cent.

Virtualisation and Google tied for seventh position with 5.1 per cent. Netbooks came in ninth (4.87 per cent) and, rounding out the Top 10, is a surprising candidate, the Government 2.0 Taskforce with 4.6 per cent.

Notable exclusions to the Top 10 include the Gershon Review, ISP-level internet content filtering and Twitter. Votes were placed by 431 individuals.

The Computerworld Top 10 Most Influential for 2009 highlights the people, products, organisations, trends or events that have had the greatest influence on the ICT industry and community.

Earlier in December we counted down to the Computerworld Panel’s winner with one article each day from 10th place to number one throughout the month. Below is the final list from the panel:
