New Storage Area Networks (SANs) are on the cards to help support ICT services at the Sydney and Melbourne offices of the Migration Review and Refugee Review Tribunals.
According to Tribunal documents, upcoming projects at the two organisations are expected to see the demand for storage double over the next two years.
The new SANs will also be utilised by the Tribunals in a forthcoming migration to virtualisation project.
Through moving to new SANs, the Tribunals will cut down on the high maintenance costs being paid on the now end-of-life existing SANs.
Future maintenance costs will be priced into the products’ depreciated lifespan.
The Tribunals’ existing SAN environment consists of two Dell/EMC CX500 SANs – one each in Sydney and Melbourne running over fibre channel (FC) infrastructure.
The new Sydney SAN will consist of 15 1TB Serial Advanced Technology Attachment (SATA) 7k disks and 22 450GB 15k serial attached SCSI (SAS)/ FC disks.
Melbourne’s SAN will have eight 1TB SATA 7K disks and 20 450GB 15K SAS/FC disks.
The Tribunals have around 30 servers and 239 staff at their Sydney offices and eight servers and 117 staff in its Melbourne offices.
Around eight staff from the Administrative Appeals Tribunals in Perth, Adelaide and Brisbane are also supported on the Tribunals’ infrastructure.
