Global hardware vendor Dell has flagged further expansion to its Cloud services, revealing plans to build a data centre in Australia.
In an interview with The Australian, company chief executive, Michael Dell, said while some of its local partners, such as Tier 5, were looking after customer data centre needs, market demand dictated that the company build one.
A Dell spokesperson would not speculate on the site, dimensions or time frame for the data centre's construction, however said the company's plans include the building of 10 data centres globally in the coming months with Australia being one of those sites.
At a conference in Round Rock, Texas in December last year Michael Dell said that more data centres would be built around the world as the company repositioned itself as a services provider. Virtualizaiton, Cloud services, and tablets were the next target markets for the company.
“We’re making investments that are going to help our customers embrace those types of technologies. They will have a seamless way of evolving from on premise (services) to Cloud,” said Michael Dell at the time.
